Participation and Power with Girls and Young Feminists
This studio works to strengthen our practice and contribute to sector and movement wide learning. With partners and sister organisations we are in relationship with, we endeavour to identify and create intergenerational connections across the ecosystem and deepen concrete accountability for girls and young feminists.
Intentionally brings together and builds on a body of work by Ruby Johnson and Georgia Booth on meaningful youth and girls’ participation, working with organisations including EMpower, Elevate Children Funder’s Group, Purposeful, Children's Investment Fund Foundation, Our Collective Practice, Save the Children, Plan International, Porticus, and UN Foundation.
In collaboration with artist and researcher Ipsita Dwivedi and care collective we documented learnings and developed insights and recommendations on girl and young feminist advocacy, resourcing and participation, including intergenerational approaches.
Another world is possible - powered by girls
Prepared by Georgia Booth, Kristen Woolf and Swatee Deepak
Closer Than You Think was commissioned by two large private funders to produce a video that centres the voices of adolescent girls, their experiences on issues like preventing child marriage and violence against children and amplifies their advice, demands and invitations to collaborate with funders.
The video was shown to presidents and senior executives of private foundations and individual philanthropists and we hope these powerful words from girls around the world stimulate collaboration, increased resources, shared learning, and sustained political will for adolescent girls.
With thanks to Gabrielle Bailey for narration and the many adolescent girls around the world featured with thanks to The Children's Rights Innovation Fund, With and For Girls, Purposeful, NoVo Foundation, EMpower, Global Fund for Women and PMNCH for use of their footage and the work they contribute.
